It's 2020 - At least for now
The Holidays are over and we find ourselves catapulted into 2020. So Happy New Year to you all!
I had a lot of fun leading up to Christmas with a couple of assignments for Motorbike Rentals & Alternative Adventures who are based in Hopkins, Belize.
Emma, the owner, runs a great business and she is comfortable exploring the kind of imagery she uses to market her business.
With a large proportion of US customers, it makes sense to mark Thanksgiving each year. For 2019 she had the concept 'Tanksgiving'. After some brainstorming with Emma, this is the final image we came up with.
LOCATION: The company workshop.
WARDROBE: Emma is modelling and is wearing her own clothes. I'm also a model in the shot and am wearing a mechanic shirt provided by Emma. I supplied the white cotton gloves.
PROPS: Table, tablecloth, tray, wine and napkin all provided by Emma. I took a separate shot of the salad and comped it into the final image. I also roasted and provided the chicken which was shot in situ. I made the STP label and provided the large bottle for the shot.
This is shot with one speedlight through a softbox. The camera is mounted on a tripod. I managed the shoot using a tablet and software to control the camera remotely. In this shot, the remote is on the floor by my feet giving me a live view of what the camera is seeing. To capture the scene I triggered the camera by using my toes to fire the camera and flash once I was happy with how the composition looked on the tablet's screen.
Next up was a sequence of images leading up to and on Christmas day. But here is just the final image that was used for Christmas Day.
LOCATION: Springfield, a well known Mennonite community in the Cayo District of Belize.
WARDROBE: Dress and boots are Emma's and she also provided the novelty Santa hat. The belt is mine.
PROPS: We used two of the bikes from Emma's business to play the roles of reindeer, including Rudolf. The antlers, and rope were purchased for the shoot. Rudolf's red nose is a foam ball that has been sprayed with red paint and then double-sided to the motorcycle. The gifts were shot separately and then comped into the final image. A good friend who has a farm in the area was able to to find someone who was happy to let us use the small Mennonite buggy in the shot, which came with the leather crop.
The shot was made using two speedlights that were positioned to give good highlights to Emma's hair and arm and also to fill some of the shadow areas in the dark areas of 'Rudolf' motorcycle.
